Seaman is suing employer for negligence after breaking hand

A local seaman is suing over claims he sustained injuries after an accident on a sea vessel.

Victor Arzu-Martinez filed a lawsuit March 18 in the Jefferson County against Seabulk Tankers Inc., citing negligence under the Jones Act.

Arzu-Martinez claims that on March 24, 2013, he was working on the vessel American Phoenix, which was owned by the defendant.

According to the brief, the defendant's negligence resulted in a drill twisting at the wrong time and Arzu-Martinez seriously injuring himself, including breaking his hand.

Arzu-Martinez is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional minimum, attorney's fees and court costs.

He is being represented in the case by Houston attorneys Kurt B. Arnold, J. Kyle Findley and M. Paul Skrabanek of Arnold & Itkin LLP.
