Cement finisher sues after injured by high pressure hose; seeks $1M

Concrete contractor

A Jefferson County couple is suing after the husband allegedly sustained injuries while working.

Jose Gonzalez and Maria Gonzalez filed a lawsuit April 15 in the Jefferson County Court against the city of Beaumont and Brystar Contracting Inc., citing injury by motor equipment, negligence and gross negligence.

The complaint states Jose Gonzalez was a cement finisher for Brystar Contracting and was working on a project for the city of Beaumont, which required the flushing of sewer lines on April 13, 2012.

Jose Gonzalez states he was monitoring the high pressure hose and due to the defendants' negligence, the nozzle of the hose shot out of the sewer and struck the plaintiff in the head, causing injury.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants negligently operated the motor equipment controlling the high pressure hose and Brystar negligently failed to supervise employee activity, failed to provide a safe place to work, failed to warn employees, failed to furnish safe machinery and failed to provide adequate help.

Jose Gonzalez and Maria Gonzalez are seeking monetary relief over $1 million.

The plaintiffs are being represented in the case by Scott Renick of Renick Law Firm PLLC.
