A Galveston County woman is suing over claims she was fired after returning from family medical leave.
Jacqueline Andres filed a lawsuit May 16 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against College of the Mainland, citing a civil rights violation.
According to the complaint, Andres was on leave from her employment at the College of the Mainland under the Family and Medical Leave Act from Oct. 25, 2012, until Feb. 7, 2013. The suit states the college extended Andres' leave until March 7, 2013.
Andres says when she returned to work she was removed from normal work and put on special projects before being informed her employment would be terminated May 18, 2013.
Andres is seeking judgment that the defendant's conduct has been discriminatory, damages, back pay, front pay or reinstatement, and attorney's fees.
She is being represented in the case by attorney Anthony P. Griffin of A. Griffin Lawyers in Galveston.
