Ronald Blizard and Judy Blizard filed suit June 25 in Galveston County Court against Autoliv ASP Inc., Ford Motor Co. and McRee Ford Inc.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 13, Ronald Blizard was driving west on Santa Fe Drive at the intersection with South Tower Road in Santa Fe when he suffered a medical emergency and blacked out. His 2005 Ford F-150 vehicle then veered off the road and collided with a tree, the suit states.  During the collision, the vehicle's occupant restraint system failed to deploy properly and failed to prevent Blizard from sustaining severe and disabling injuries, according to the suit.

The defendants are accused of negligence in the design, assembly, manufacture and servicing of the occupant restraint system.

The Blizards are seeking damages in an amount in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limit, plus costs. They are represented by San Antonio attorney Stephen E. Van Gaasbeck of Apffel Law Firm.
