A woman claims she sustained medical costs following a collision.

Kristen Godwin filed a lawsuit July 14 in the Jefferson County District Court against Estrella Elena Cardenas and Patrick J. Ozment.

In her complaint, Godwin alleges she was driving south on Eastex Freeway in Beaumont on March 20, 2013, when suddenly Ozment failed to control his speed and struck Godwin’s vehicle.

In addition to her medical costs, Godwin experienced extreme physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment and lost earnings because of the collision, according to the complaint.

Godwin blames Ozment for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to control his speed and drove inattentively.

She also names Cardenas as a defendant, saying she negligently entrusted her vehicle to Ozment.

Godwin seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is being represented by attorneys James E. Payne, Jennifer Job Seale and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.
