Pedestrian files lawsuit against driver who struck her

A woman has filed suit against the driver she claims struck her as she was attempting to cross the street.

Doris Sims filed suit July 25 in the Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 against Amy Lee Mellon.

According to the complaint, Sims was attempting to cross Avenue S in Galveston on July 28, 2012, when defendant Amy Lee Mellon struck her vehicle.

Because of the incident, Sims suffered serious physical injuries, incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and mental anguish and suffered physical impairment, according to the complaint.

Mellen negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to turn her vehicle to avoid a collision, failed to timely apply her brakes, drove too fast and drove in a reckless manner, the suit states.

In her complaint, Mellen is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus prejudgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is being represented by attorney David A. Slaughter of Houston.
