Beaumont men accused of defaulting on student loans

Two Beaumont men are being sued for allegedly defaulting on nearly $20,000 in student loans.

The National Collegiate Student Loan Trust 2005-3 filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in Jefferson County District Court against Pimbly Guidry and George Fontenot.

Guidry allegedly borrowed money from Charter One Bank to attend Lamar University for the 2004-05 school year. According to the complaint, the loan, guaranteed by Fontenot, allowed for a deferral period. Guidry allegedly agreed to begin repaying the student loan after the deferral.

The lawsuit alleges Guidry failed to make payments as agreed and defaulted on the loan, leaving an unpaid balance of nearly $19,000.

Guidry and Fontenot are accused of breach of contract. National Collegiate asks they be ordered to pay the remaining balance on the loan plus interest and costs of the lawsuit.

The National Collegiate Student Loan Trust 2005-3 is represented by attorney Michael J. Scott of Carrollton.
