Woman alleges injuries in collision in La Marque

A woman says she suffered mental and physical pain after a driver allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way, causing a collision.

Sherry Vavra filed a lawsuit Aug. 25 in Galveston County District Court against Johnny Ray Johnson Jr.

In her complaint, Vavra alleges she was driving north in the 700 block of state Highway 3 approaching its intersection at Cedar in La Marque on Feb. 8, 2013, when Johnson, who was driving south on the same road, attempted to turn left. However, he failed to yield the right-of-way and struck Vavra's vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to her pain, Vavra experienced mental anguish and physical impairment, lost her capacity to perform household services and lost wages, the suit states.

Vavra blames Johnson for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to control his speed, failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to turn to avoid a collision and drove too fast.

In her complaint, Vavra seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of the court, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jeffrey N. Todd, of The Law Firm of Alton C. Todd in Friendswood, will represent her.
