Rear-end collision subject of lawsuit

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended the vehicle in which she was riding.

Selyna Spurlock claims she was riding in a vehicle her mother, Snookie Spurlock, was driving north on Eastex Freeway on Aug. 29, 2011, when she slowed for traffic. Suddenly, defendant Keaton Baker failed to control his speed and struck the back of her vehicle, according to the complaint filed Sept. 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the collision, Selyna Spurlock suffered neck, low back, shoulder and scapular injuries and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also suffered mental anguish, endured physical pain and suffering and experienced physical impairment, the complaint says.

Selyna Spurlock blames Baker for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to control his speed, drove too fast and followed Selyna Spurlock's vehicle too closely.

In her complaint, Selyna Spurlock is seeking unspecified damages, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law and other relief the court deems just.

Clay Dugas and Cody Rees of Beaumont will be representing her.
