Woman files slip-and-fall suit against hotel

A woman alleges she fell on rainwater while attempting to leave a hotel.

Sharon Hutto filed a lawsuit Sept. 22 in Galveston County District Court against 9550 Seawall Boulevard in Galveston, a Texas domestic limited partnership.

In her complaint, Sharon Hutto alleges she and her husband, James Hutto, were staying at the Courtyard by Marriott at 9550 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, on Oct. 11, 2013. They were attempting to leave the hotel as it was raining when Sharon Hutto fell, according to the complaint.

Because of her fall, Sharon Hutto suffered severe, permanent and disabling injuries, incurred medical costs and endured physical impairment, the suit states. She also suffered pain and mental anguish, the complaint says.

Sharon Hutto blames the owners of the location for causing her fall, saying it ignored a foreseeable hazard, failed to take steps to correct the hazard and failed to warn of the hazardous condition.

In her complaint, Sharon Hutto seeks actual and compensatory damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Attorney Nathan N. Beedle of The Woodlands will represent Hutto.
