Missouri City radiographer alleges age and race discrimination

Discrimination

HOUSTON — A Missouri City radiographer is suing a former employer over alleged age and race discrimination in the workplace.

Lovell Singleterry filed suit on Aug. 13 against Furmanite America and the Furmanite Corporation in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas.

Singleterry, a 58-year-old African-American, was hired in September 2014. His supervisor was Tim Thorsten, a Caucasian. Singleterry alleges Thorsten exhibited discriminatory attitudes toward him, favoring, mentoring and training others over him and allegedly only agreeing to train him on weekends, during which time Singleterry would not be paid.

The plaintiff also alleges that he was not given adequate enough work to qualify as a licensed radiologist, as he did not acquire the necessary hours to qualify to take the state test in this area. After a certain point, he allegedly was no longer being given any radiology work and allegedly heard racial slurs directed at him by his employers.

Singleterry is asking for back pay, interest, attorney costs, and compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Shelby C. Vick and Bruce A. Coane, of Coane & Associates, PLLC in Houston.
