Patient blames Beaumont Eye for accident at medical plaza

Handicapramp

BEAUMONT - A Jefferson County woman is suing two Beaumont eye centers and a property owner, alleging negligence for injuries she says she sustained on their premises.

Sherry Marie Blackman filed a lawsuit Jan. 15 in Jefferson County District Court against Beaumont Eye Associates LLP, Eye Centers of Southeast Texas LLP, and P & C Jensen Investments LLC, alleging negligence and breach of express or implied warranty under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act.

The suit states on Jan. 29, 2014, Blackman was visiting the defendants' offices in the Beaumont Medical Plaza, owned by P & C Jensen Investments, when she tripped and fell in a gap as she was walking up the handicap ramp. The lawsuit alleges the defendants were negligent in that they knew or should have known of the dangerous condition created by the uneven ramp and failed to repair it, among other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, the lawsuit says the plaintiff suffered injuries to her face, head, mouth, left arm, left wrist, neck and body in general.

Blackman seeks actual damages, interest, punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Brandon P. Monk of The Monk Law Firm in Port Arthur.
