HOUSTON – A 55-year-old Houston man is suing a Dallas-based catalyst handling company, alleging age discrimination.

Darrell McPherson filed a lawsuit Jan. 27 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Mourik Inc., alleging a violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to the complaint, beginning in January 2015 and continuing into April 2015, McPherson, 55, was denied promotion to a full-time tech position, although he had more industry-related experience and company seniority than the other applicants.

The suit says McPherson was told by a project manager that the company wanted someone young. The plaintiff believes he was discriminated against because of his age.

McPherson seeks back pay, front pay, litigation expenses, punitive damages, court costs, attorney fees and compensatory damages. McPherson is represented by attorney Dasean A. Jones of Houston.
