GALVESTON – A Louisiana deck hand is suing Chevron, alleging negligence and unsafe working conditions led to him suffering injuries aboard a vessel.

Anthony Jones of Louisiana filed a lawsuit Jan. 26 in Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Chevron USA, Inc., Danos and Curole Marine Contractors Inc., Floatel Victory LTD and Empire Scaffold LLC, alleging negligence and unseaworthiness.

According to the complaint, on Jan 26, 2015, while performing his duties on the vessel Floatel Victory in the Gulf of Mexico, Jones suffered serious and debilitating injuries when he manually carried materials across the deck of the vessel connected to Chevron’s Jack/St. Malo platform.

The suit says the plaintiff sustained these injuries because the defendant failed to take reasonable precaution for his safety and failed to provide a reasonably safe place to work.

The plaintiff alleges lost earnings, loss of earning capacity and permanent disfigurement

Jones seeks a trial by jury, pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages to which he is entitled, including punitive damages, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Marcus R. Spagnoletti of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
