BEAUMONT – A Port Arthur woman is suing the city of Port Arthur, alleging negligence for injuries she says she suffered when a city garbage truck struck the vehicle she was in.

Shantonie Gasper of Port Arthur filed a lawsuit Feb. 4 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Port Arthur and the Port Arthur Solid Waste Management, alleging negligence.

On March 24, 2014, according to the lawsuit, Hampton Cain, driving a garbage truck, failed to back with safety and struck a vehicle in which Gasper was a passenger.

According to the lawsuit, Gasper suffered permanent and disabling injuries that require extensive and ongoing medical treatment.

Gasper seeks $100,000 for pre-judgment and post judgment interest, costs of court and all other relief, plus a jury trial. She is represented by attorneys Jeff Musslewhite and Lori Brown of Brown and Musslewhite LLLP in Houston.
