Lottie Winfield filed suit against Elton Senegal, Shammah Stone and Elton’s Construction on Oct. 26, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court.
The case of Winfield v. Senegal was slated to go to trial on July 11 but settled beforehand, according to a courthouse official.
According to the original petition, in November 2008 Winfield entered into an agreement with the contractors for repair work to his Ike-damaged home in Beaumont for $50,000.
In August 2009, a Beaumont building inspector discovered the contractors were performing work without the proper permits.
“In addition to not being properly permitted, Defendants’ work on Plaintiff’s residence was substandard,” the suit states.
After being notified, the defendants allegedly never made a good faith attempt to repair the home in accordance with the city’s requirements.
Beaumont attorney Mitch Templeton represents the plaintiff.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
