Patron accuses boutique owner of negligence

BEAUMONT — A Nederland woman is suing a local boutique operator, alleging negligence after the plaintiff fell in the store. 

Dorothy Purkerson filed a lawsuit July 7 in Jefferson County District Court against Gaudie and Company LLC,  alleging negligence in failing to protect its customers.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 27, 2014, Purkerson was was leaving the counter after paying for her items at Gaudie and Company in Nederland when she stepped backward, missed the step behind her and fell.

The suit says the fall caused Purkerson severe injuries to her hip back and body that required medical attention. 

The plaintiff alleges Gaudie created and maintained the dangerous conditions, failed to warn and failed to remedy the dangerous conditions.

Purkerson seeks trial by jury, monetary damages between $200,000 and $1 million, plus penalties, court costs, expenses, pre-judgment interest, attorney fees and all other relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by attorney Brandon P. Monk of The Monk Law Firm in Beaumont.
