Employee blames remodeling contractors for injuries

GALVESTON — A Harris County woman is suing remodeling contractors, alleging their negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff. 

Esmeralda Montes filed a lawsuit Oct. 4 in Galveston County District Court against Elory Tamez and Juan Tamez, alleging failure to provide a safe work environment.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 31, 2015, while in the course of working at Grand Cay Harbour in Texas City, Montes attempted to climb a ladder. The suit says Montes was injured when one of the ladder's leg slipped on the surface and the plaintiff fell to the ground. 

The lawsuit states Montes suffered physical pain and mental anguish, plus medical expenses.The plaintiff alleges the defendants negligently conducted active operations on the premises and failed to properly train and supervise their employees.

Montes seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, all court costs and all other relief. She is represented by attorneys Kiernan McAlpine and JohnArthur Daspit of Daspit Law Firm in Houston.
