Beaumont attorney to dismiss suit against Jefferson County, says official

BEAUMONT – A lawsuit brought by an area attorney over a tax foreclosure sale will soon be dismissed, says a courthouse official.

Gayln Cooper filed suit against Jefferson County on Nov. 1 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, Cooper filed the suit to enjoin the county from proceeding with a tax foreclosure sale of a property located at 6570 Wilder Drive that was set for Nov. 1 at the courthouse.

Court records show a temporary restraining order was granted on the date the suit was filed and a hearing for an injunction was set for Nov. 16.

However, a court official told the Record Cooper will dismiss the case.

No notice of dismissal was on file as of Nov. 14.

Cooper claimed he would suffer irreparable harm if the sale proceeded.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is presiding over the case.
