BEAUMONT – A toxic tort accusing E.I. DuPont De Nemours of wrongful death has been brought against the company.

The estate of William Clawson filed the suit on April 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, Clawson was a long-term employee of DuPont and was required to work around the “potent bladder carcinogen known as aminodiphenyl.”

As a result of his “needless” exposure, Clawson developed bladder cancer, “from which he died a painful and terrible death” on Dec. 5, 2016.

The suit alleges DuPont has known of the dangers of the carcinogen since the early 1930s.

The plaintiffs allege DuPont acted with gross negligence, entitling them to exemplary damages.

Beaumont attorney Darren Brown of the Provost Umphrey Law Firm represents the plaintiffs.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. B-199845
