HOUSTON – A lawsuit has been filed in response to a late 2015 robbery at a north Houston shopping center which killed a married father of one.

Houston resident Deana Precella filed the suit against IMI Investments, Inc. and Aldine Westfield Retail LLC in the Harris County 333rd District Court on Aug. 3 as a representative of the estate of Erasmo Alanis, Jr. and on behalf of the couple’s minor daughter.

Recent court papers state the defendants owned and operated the shopping center where Alanis lost his life while trying to protect his family -- Precella and the unidentified girl -- from a robber on Sept. 13, 2015.

According to the suit, the 26-year-old Alanis was fatally shot.

Precella asserts the respondents were responsible for the management, safety, and security of the premises, claiming the surrounding area was susceptible to crime.

Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Kerry M. Guidry of The Guidry Law Firm in Houston is representing Precella and her daughter.
