METRO brings suit against motorist in response to collision with light rail car

Car accident 45

HOUSTON – The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County brought a lawsuit against a motorist it claims caused an accident with a METRORail car last year.

Recent court papers filed on Dec. 8 in the Harris County 133rd District Court state that Pasadena resident Augustin Cruz Melendez was operating a dump truck southbound in the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Aug. 31, 2016 when he ran a red light and attempted a U-turn where prohibited for trucks by a traffic control sign.

Melendez’s vehicle then purportedly struck an oncoming METRO train. Per the suit, the collision caused substantial damage to the plaintiff’s train, axel counter box, and bar signal.

Consequently, METRO seeks unspecified monetary damages.

It is represented by its in-house legal counsel, Jon Bohn.
