Woman alleges Fresenius Medical Care North America, others' negligence caused decedent's infection

Medical malpractice 05

HOUSTON – A Crosby woman alleges that her late husband died of a bacterial infection because of the neglect of a dialysis facility.

Kathy Washington, individually and as representative of the estate of Micah Erwin Washington Jr., deceased filed a complaint on Dec. 13, 2017, in the Harris County District Court against Fresenius Medical Care North America, et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in October 2015, while Micah Erwin Washington Jr. was receiving dialysis treatment at defendants' Crosby Dialysis Facility, his access catheter became infected. On Oct. 18, 2015, he died due to multiple organ failure caused by a MRSA bacterial infection, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds Fresenius Medical Care North America, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently used unclean, unsanitary and/or contaminated equipment and failed to take medically appropriate measures to treat the decedent's infection.

The plaintiff seeks actual and exemplary damages, with interest and costs of the action. She is represented by Sarnie A. Randle Jr. of S.A. Randle & Associates PC in Houston.
