HOUSTON – A Florida woman is seeking damages after she was injured while working aboard a towing vessel.

Nicole E. Snick filed a complaint on Dec. 20, 2017, in the Harris County District Court against Penn Maritime Inc. and Kirby Corp. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 17, 2017, she was injured while in the course and scope of her employment as a lead tankerman on defendants' towing vessel. As she was performing her work, the suit states she slipped and fell on a set of wet stairs between deck levels. She alleges she sustained serious and debilitating injuries to her left shoulder, neck and other parts of her body.

The plaintiff holds Penn Maritime Inc. and Kirby Corp. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a safe work environment, failed to maintain the vessel's equipment in a reasonably safe condition and failed to adopt and implement adequate safety policies and procedures.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendants, jointly and severally, for damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, and such other general and special relief. She is represented by Matthew D. Shaffer and Laura B. De La Cruz of Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris LLP in Houston.
