LAREDO – A citizen journalist and blogger was recently arrested for releasing the name of a border patrol agent who committed suicide before the police could put out a press release.

Known to her followers as “Lagordiloca,” Priscilla Villarreal made headlines after being charged with two felony counts of misuse of official information. She turned herself in on Dec. 13.

Last April, Villarreal reported on the suicide of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection employee after apparently obtaining the name from a veteran Laredo police officer, according to media reports.

Villarreal has made a name for herself by patrolling the city in search of news, often filming local police in action and streaming the feed to her Facebook page, Lagordiloca News.

“This page is to inform the community of news happening around our town and other places.......RAW, Unedited and uncensored news,” the Facebook page states under the about section.

Nearly 85,000 people follow her page.

Villarreal did not respond to a request for comment.
