GALVESTON – Guests at a Galveston County hotel allege two independent contractors negligently installed a shower support bar.

Maria Ann Garcia-Stevenson and Kenneth Stevenson, individually and on behalf of their minor son, filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in the Galveston County District Court against Gilbane Building Co. and Marek Bros. Systems alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on July 19, 2016, plaintiff Garcia-Stevenson was showering at Moody Gardens Hotel when suddenly and without warning, the support bar she was using came out of the wall and caused her to fall in the shower and injure herself. She alleges she sustained injuries to the discs, ligaments, muscles of her spine and other parts of her body. Plaintiff Stevenson and their minor son allege they suffered loss of household service and society of Garcia-Stevenson.

The plaintiffs hold Gilbane Building Co. and Marek Bros. Systems responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly install the support bar and anchors in the room at the Moody Gardens Hotel.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek actual damages, pre- and post judgement interest and court costs and such other relief as to which they may show themselves justly entitled. They are represented by Lauren Brossette of Broussard & Hart LLC in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
