Woman delivers baby into toilet, files petition to investigate potential suit against Christus

Medical malpractice 03

BEAUMONT – Christus Health Southeast Texas is facing a possible lawsuit after a woman admitted to St. Elizabeth Hospital delivered her baby into a toilet last May.

Myranda Carnahan, individually and on behalf of her minor child, filed the petition Jan. 23 in Jefferson County District Court, seeking to obtain the testimony of the custodian of medical records for St. Elizabeth.

According to the petition, on May 30, 2017, Carnahan went to the emergency room complaining of labor pains. She was apparently discharged and told that she had a bladder infection.

She returned the following day and was admitted for observation.

“On the morning of June 1, 2017, Mrs. Carnahan went to the restroom and her water broke and she delivered her child into the toilet,” the petition states. “The child was hospitalized for approximately four months and continues to undergo treatment for serious birth injuries.”

Carnahan is represented by Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. B-201199
