BEAUMONT – Cathy Young has filed a petition to perpetuate the testimony of Joe Young, seeking his benzene exposure history while employed by ExxonMobil.

The petition was filed Jan. 22 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, Joe Young was diagnosed with Chronic Lympocytic Leukemia. The disease is expected to prove fatal.

The petitioner has notified ExxonMobil that a gross negligence, wrongful death lawsuit will be initiated, which will allege Joe’s condition was a result of benzene exposure during his employment with ExxonMobil.

Carnahan is represented by Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas.

The Youngs are represented by Keith Hyde, attorney for the Provost Umphrey law firm in Beaumont.

Judge Baylor Wortham, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
