JC jury awards $120K in auto collision suit

Car accident 44

BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County jury recently awarded $120,000 in damages to a plaintiff in an automobile collision lawsuit that went to trial earlier this month.

Steven Hardt filed suit against Troy Booker Sr., James Reed and Allstate on Dec. 2, 2016.

According to the original petition, on Jan. 7, 2016, Booker failed to control the speed of his vehicle and struck Reed, who allegedly failed to control the proper distance between his vehicle and the vehicle in front of him, which was driven by Hardt.

The jury assigned 100 percent of the negligence to Booker, finding no fault with Reed, according to the charge of the court, filed May 8.

Jurors awarded Hardt $80,000 for his past medical expenses and $40,000 for his past loss of earning capacity.

No damages were awarded for Hardt’s alleged mental anguish and impairment.

Judge Kent Walston, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
