TYLER – A Tyler woman alleges she was terminated and discriminated against by her former employer because of her pregnancy.

Teasha Sanders filed a complaint on May 24 in the Tyler Division of the Eastern District of Texas against BCFS Health and Human Services, doing business as Baptist Child & Family Services, et al. alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began employment with the defendants' Breckenridge Village of Tyler in November 2016 as a house manager. She alleges she regularly worked 85 hours per week but was only paid for 60 hours.

She alleges when she became pregnant, she asked to step down to a part-time position and was offered one, but never placed. She alleges she was also never placed back on the schedule or provided a new contract to sign in June 2017.

The plaintiff holds BCFS Health and Human Services, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly subjected to discriminatory terms and conditions of employment and termination because of her gender and pregnancy and failed to properly compensate her works performed longer than 40 hours per workweek.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay, reinstatement/front pay, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney’s fees, expert fees and costs, and such other and further relief to which she may show herself entitled. She is represented by William S. Hommel Jr. of Hommel Law Firm in Tyler.
