BEAUMONT – A man alleges his belongings were damaged because the U-Haul truck he rented to haul them leaked due to rain.

Justin Chaudury filed a complaint on May 29 in the Jefferson County District Court against U-Haul and Repwest Insurance Co. alleging negligence and failure to act in good faith.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 26, 2016, he was utilizing a truck rented from defendant U-Haul when rain occurred as he passed through Jefferson County. He alleges when he went to unload the truck later, he discovered that the top of the vehicle had severely leaked, causing damage to its contents.

The plaintiff alleges he reported the loss to defendant U-Haul and made a claim to defendant Repwest the same day.

The plaintiff holds U-Haul and Repwest Insurance Co. responsible because defendant U-Haul allegedly failed to inspect its truck for water leaks prior to renting and Repwest failed to offer a reasonable settlement to him.

The plaintiff seeks actual and punitive damages, costs of court and and all other relief to which he may be entitled. SH is represented by Jacques Y. Le Blanc of Leblanc Law Firm PC in Houston.
