HOUSTON – Anthony G. Buzbee of The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the daughter of a man who died from injuries sustained in a fall from an offshore rig last month and a worker who survived the incident, recent Harris County District Court records show.

In court documents filed on July 3 in the Harris County 295th District Court, Houston resident Katherine Silva claims her late father, Marco Mata, succumbed to “major blunt force trauma” after he and several other men – including Silva’s co-plaintiff Ariel Zuniga – were sent “tumbling into an ocean” while attempting to troubleshoot a leak on a rig purportedly operated by Petrofac with assistance from Golfo Energy, LLC and SGF Global, Inc. on June 27.

The suit alleges the rig “was badly corroded in areas, and this was well known to the defendants,” adding that the subject event occurred when a metal grating gave way from underneath the workers.

Zuniga says he “suffered spinal injuries that resulted in paralysis.”

Consequently, he and Silva seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
