HOUSTON – Harris County residents allege a Houston contractor filed a fraudulent lien on their home.

Matthew Knickrehm and Debra Knickrehm filed a complaint on July 16 in the Harris County District Court against Kenyon Lovelace, individually and doing business as Houston Granite and Flooring LLC, alleging breach of contract, deceptive trade practices and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs arranged with the defendants to remediate their house after flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. The plaintiffs allege that that the defendants did not provide a written contract with the state-mandated requirements with warnings regarding a contractor's right to file a lien.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants performed work that was below industry and Federal Emergency Management Agency standards and then filed a fraudulent lien.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek an order declaring that the alleged lien is improperly and fraudulently filed, award for damages of more than $50,000, costs, interest and such other and further relief to which they may be entitled. They are represented by Jerry C. von Sternberg and Jennifer N. Ware of The von Sternberg Law Firm in Cypress.
