BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County woman alleges she lost sight in one eye after a fall at a Beaumont store.

Queen E. Riley filed a complaint on July 18 in the Jefferson County District Court against Dolgencorp of Texas Inc. alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 8, 2017, she was entering the Dollar General store on Fannett Road in Beaumont when she tripped over a mat that was improperly placed outside the door, causing her to fall and hit her face and right eye on a counter. The suit states despite undergoing extensive medical treatments, she completely and permanently lost vision in her right eye.

The plaintiff holds Dolgencorp of Texas Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly knew of the dangerous condition of the incorrectly placed mat and failed correct it.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million and such other and further relief to which she may be entitled. She is represented by David Bernsen and Tanner G. M. Franklin of The Bernsen Law Firm in Beaumont.
