HOUSTON – A Maryland-based government contractor government contractor that specializes in NASA contracts is facing a lawsuit from a former flight controller in Texas.

Recent Houston federal court records show that Kenneth Edwards initiated legal action against Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies Inc. on July 27.

The 6-page suit claims that Edwards was terminated in late December 2017 because he suffered from Parkinson’s disease, of which he was diagnosed sometime in 2016.

The plaintiff applied for and secured FMLA leave for his condition. SGT purportedly used Edwards’s time off during his protected FMLA leave – May 5-July 29, 2016 – in deciding to terminate his contract with IMOC II.

According to the original petition, the defendant further failed to place Edwards “in a substantially similar position upon his return from FMLA leave, as required by law.”

“Thereafter, the plaintiff applied to three to four positions for which he was qualified, but was not interviewed or selected for those positions,” court documents state.

SGT fired the complainant on Dec. 31, 2017.

Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Alfonso Kennard, Jr. of the law firm Kennard Richard P.C. in Houston is representing Edwards.
