HOUSTON – An alleged estrangement involving a father-son attorney tandem is the subject of a state district lawsuit filed on Aug. 2.

Recent Harris County District Court records show that Brandon R. Cammack is pursuing legal action against his father, Samuel R. Cammack, III, for threatening and assaulting him.

The younger Cammack worked with the defendant until June. Court documents claim that Samuel R. Cammack, III mistreated his son “over the course of almost two and a half years.”

“The defendant constantly berated and belittled the plaintiff, his own son, often referring to him as ‘mother f*****’ among other derogatory names,” the original petition says. “Over time, as the plaintiff started taking on more and more responsibilities at work, the defendant’s behavior towards the plaintiff worsened.”

For reasons the suit did not specify, the complainant was terminated from his father’s firm on June 18. The younger Cammack started his own practice, which reportedly angered the respondent.

“The defendant started accusing the plaintiff of being a thief, posted accusations about the plaintiff on social media Web sites, called and texted the plaintiff to the point where the plaintiff had no choice but to block the defendant’s number,” the suit says.

Tensions between the parties came to a head at the start of this month when Samuel R. Cammack, III allegedly confronted Brandon R. Cammack at the Harris County Criminal Justice Center.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff’s refusal to meet privately with his father caused the defendant to physically attack him.

Other attorneys and people who witnessed the incident “quickly” separated the men, the suit says, adding the respondent vowed in a text to his son’s grandmother “to beat the life out of him.”

It further accuses the elder Cammack of “having a complete and utter disregard for the law.”

Consequently, Brandon R. Cammack seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Harris County 151st District Court Judge Mike Engelhart granted the plaintiff a temporary restraining order against his father. A temporary injunction hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.

Joseph Mathew of The Law Offices of J. Mathew, PLLC in Houston is representing the complainant.
