Seaman alleges Schlumberger Technology, others failed to provide adequate equipment for job

HOUSTON – A seaman alleges the negligence of his employers caused his back injuries.

Anthony Megginson filed a complaint on Aug. 7 in the Harris County District Court against Schlumberger Technology Corp., et al. citing the Jones Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 5, 2016, he was performing his duties aboard the defendants' vessel and injured his back while carrying a fixed choke up a flight of stairs. He alleges after he completed the task, he was taken onshore for treatment and is still receiving treatment.

The plaintiff holds Schlumberger Technology Corp., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide proper and adequate equipment for the job, failed to take reasonable precautions and failed to provide effective medical treatment on board the vessel.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in of more than $100,000, plus interest, punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs and all other relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Marcus R. Spagnoletti and Eric J. Rhine of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston and R. Joshua Koch of Koch & Schmidt LLC in New Orleans, Louisiana.
