GALVESTON – A lawsuit claims a seaman suffered breathing problems, diabetes, and blindness because of mold exposure on his employers’ vessel.

Stephen Holt brought the suit against Savage Inland Marine, LLC and Savage Marine Management Co., LLC on Aug. 8 in the Galveston County Court at Law No. 2.

According to court papers, Holt inhaled mold “that was abundant within the walls of the Savage Manor.”

The defendants reportedly terminated the plaintiff after he discovered the mold, as well as tried to rid the vessel of evidence.

“The defendants acted with flagrant and malicious disregard of the plaintiff’s health and safety,” the suit says.

Consequently, Holt seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Kurt Arnold of the law firm Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston serves as the plaintiff’s lead counsel.
