HOUSTON – A Harris County couple claims that Conn Appliances, Inc. leased them a faulty gas range stove which injured the wife.
Phyliss and Vernon Lott filed a lawsuit against Conn’s on Aug. 12 in the Harris County 113th District Court. U.S. Transportation Corp. and Cacinos Escobar Services, LLC are listed as co-defendants in the litigation.
The 11-page suit says that a driver for the defendants installed the stove, but could not turn on one of the gas burners. Phyliss Lott went to Conn’s to complain and was told by the manager the appliance in question was lacking a part.
Assured that the stove could still be used, Phyliss Lott operated the stove on Aug. 12, 2016 when it exploded, the suit says.
The plaintiffs reported the incident to their gas provider, and it was determined a broken part enabled gas to slowly leak into their home.
Phyliss Lott complained to Conn’s again. The store reportedly refunded the couple’s money and replaced the stove.
Consequently, the Lotts seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
They are represented by George K. Farah and Nathan E. Inurria of the law firm Guerra & Farah, PLLC in Houston.
