HOUSTON – A Penitas man alleges his hand was severely injured while working at a Louisiana job site.

Jose Maria Flores filed a complaint on Aug. 15 in the Harris County District Court against Gulf Interstate Field Services Inc. and TransCanada USA Operations Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by Sunland Construction and was working at the defendants' Hackberry Ship Channel Drill Site in Louisiana on Aug. 2, 2017. He alleges he was injured on the site when a steel cable broke due to improper rigging, causing a hose rack to fall and crush his left hand. He alleges he suffered a comminuted fracture of the left ring finger, middle finger, index finger and thumb and deep laceration across the left palm.

The plaintiff holds Gulf Interstate Field Services Inc. and TransCanada USA Operations Inc. responsible because defendants allegedly failed to properly train and certify pipeline inspectors and failed to evaluate the job to ensure the use of proper equipment and rigging/lifting techniques.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million and all other general, necessary and equitable relief. He is represented by Cesar Tavares of Williams, Kherkher in Houston and Julie Payne Johnson of Gregorio, Chafin, Johnson, Poolson & Tabor LLC in Shreveport, Louisiana.
