GALVESTON – An equipment rental business demands that a customer in Texas City a nearly $44,000 debt, Galveston County District Court records show.

Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. is suing Mario Treychon Laday for $43,954.51 in the Galveston County 212th District Court. The plaintiff’s lawsuit alleges Laday rented two pieces of equipment in July 2017, but failed to return them.

Court papers filed on Sept. 11 explain that the defendant allowed a 9,500-lb. Mini Excavator and a 24-in. Compact Excavator Bucket to be rendered a “total loss” because of Hurricane Harvey.

Sunbelt hired a company to retrieve the machinery and billed Laday for the amount in question, which the complaint claims the respondent refuses to pay.

Monica Schulz Orlando of the law firm Orlando & Orlando, L.L.P. in Houston is representing the plaintiff.
