HOUSTON – A Mississippi seaman claims that he developed a form a cancer because of his job and is suing his employers, recent Houston federal court records show.

David Denning’s lawsuit, which was filed on Sept. 25, blames his squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis on Martin Midstream Partners LP and Martin Resource Management Corp.

Denning reportedly sustained the illness during a hitch that ended on October 29, 2015.

“While aboard the vessel (M/V LCPL The LaForce) or in the service of the vessel, a lump appeared on the plaintiff’s neck,” court papers say. “After showing it to several other employees of the defendant and while still on board the vessel, the plaintiff scheduled an appointment with the doctor to have the lump examined. In approximately the middle of November 2015, the plaintiff was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.”

Asserting that he was unable return to work, Denning faults his employers for failing to pay him maintenance and cure.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by L. James Krell of the law firm Tritico Rainey, PLLC in Houston.
