HOUSTON — A crew member is suing Hornbeck Offshore Operators and Hornbeck Offshore Services for more than $1 million, alleging negligence and an unsafe work environment.

Carlos Knox filed a complaint on Oct. 4, in the Harris County District Court, against the defendants alleging they failed to provide a safe place to work.

Knox alleges that on Aug. 10, he was employed by Encore Catering as a crew member aboard defendants' vessel, the HOS Bayou, when he slipped on the stairs of the vessel.

He allegedly injured his head and back. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to provide adequate equipment to perform his job, failing to take reasonable precautions for his safety and allegedly breaching a duty to provide maintenance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million and all other relief to which he is entitled.

He is represented by Marcus R. Spagnoletti and Eric J. Rhine of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
