HOUSTON – The father of a man who fatally shot himself at a north Houston convenience store last Fourth of July has brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the business, recent Harris County District Court records show.

Muhammad Kabir filed the suit against Choice Wholesale International, Inc., doing business as Check N Go, on Oct. 12 in the Harris County 55th District Court on behalf of the estate of Ahsanul Kabir.

According to the complaint, the store allowed an intoxicated Ahsanul Kabir to access a loaded handgun in the secured cash register area.

“Shortly after, the decedent picked up the loaded handgun, which accidentally discharged, causing a bullet to strike the decedent in the head,” the original petition says.

The younger Kabir succumbed to his injuries four days after the incident.

Consequently, Muhammad Kabir seeks unspecified monetary damages.

The Law Offices of Omar Khawaja, PLLC and Benjamin R. Roberts Law, PLLC, both in Houston, are representing the plaintiff.
