HOUSTON – A Fort Bend County woman claims in a federal lawsuit that the Fort Bend County Women’s Center, Inc. fired her because she has one or more disabilities.

Stephanie Williams’s suit, which was filed on Oct. 23 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas, accuses the nonprofit of discriminating against her for suffering from infertility, major depressive disorders, and anxiety.

Williams, whom FBWC employed as a lead residential advocate, was reportedly the target of questions about one of her conditions from the center’s director, Katherine Sanders, which the original petition explains is prohibited under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The plaintiff was also quizzed twice in late 2016 about the nature and extent of her mental health struggles, the suit says.

According to court filings, the FBWC retaliated against her when it learned that she complained about Sanders to its human resources department. The director joins the Women’s Center as a co-defendant.

Consequently, Williams seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Andrew S. Golub of the law firm Dow Golub Remels & Gilbreath, PLLC in Houston is representing the complainant.
