Samsung Electronic America faces product liability suit after S7 smartphone explodes in consumer's hand

HOUSTON – A Harris County man has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. after his smartphone allegedly “exploded while in his left hand” more than a year ago.

Butch Emran Hammad’s suit, which was filed on Nov. 12 in the Harris County 270th District Court, says that the incident involving the defendant’s S7 device occurred “suddenly and without warning” on Jan. 3, 2017.

Court papers filed the respondent for failing to properly manufacture the product in question “to safety standards, as well as not providing Hammad with a warning.

Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
