Tekoa Charter School seeks to halt demolition of property

BEAUMONT – A Port Arthur school is seeking to stop the city from demolishing property it owns.

Tekoa Charter School Inc., doing business as Tekoa Academy of Accelerated Studies S.T.E.M. School, filed a complaint on Nov. 7 in the Jefferson County District Court against the city of Port Arthur to request a temporary and permanent injunction

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that n Oct. 22 it received a notice of defendant's intent to raze, demolish or destroy the structure located at its property on 39th Street in Port Arthur. The suit states the property has been declared a nuisance and a danger to the health, safety and general welfare of the public.

The plaintiff alleges it wants to save the structure from demolition and remodel it to comply with city codes.

The plaintiff seeks an order to enjoin the defendant from demolishing the structure and award for reasonable expenses in obtaining this restraining order and all other relief to which plaintiff may be entitled. It is represented by Kent W. Johns of Kent W. Johns Law Firm in Beaumont.
