SHERMAN – An African-American woman alleges her race and disability were factors in her termination from her job from a technology company.

Sharmel Dozier filed a complaint on Dec. 4 in the Sherman District of the Eastern District of Texas against Securus Technologies Inc. alleging that the employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant as a business analyst in March 2008. The suit states in October 2014, she filed a charge of discrimination with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over complaints of failure to promote. She alleges her Caucasian supervisor "stepped up her mistreatment" of her after the complaint was filed until she was removed from work by her doctor due to stress. The suit states she was terminated while on doctor's care in April 2015.

The plaintiff holds Securus Technologies Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to make reasonable accommodations for her disability and retaliated against her in violation of the Act.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, reinstatement to former position of employment, attorney’s fees, costs, interest and such other and further relief to which she may be justly entitled. She is represented by John E. Wall Jr. of Law Offices of John E. Wall Jr. in Dallas.
