HOUSTON – A Harris County man claims in a state district lawsuit that he was a victim of a shooting earlier this year at an RV park in Highlands.

Chad Richmond’s suit, which was filed on Dec. 6 in the Harris County 80th District Court, blames the incident last Feb. 15 on David Matthew Hunter, doing business as Hunter’s RV Park.

Richmond recalls experiencing “a blowout of the left rear tire” of his GMC pickup truck and being forced to the drive the vehicle to a safe location off the main road. The plaintiff was then able to reach the defendant’s property, which was where his mother’s boyfriend resided.

Originally planning to have the truck fixed at the RV park, court papers say, Richmond decided to park his vehicle on the side of the road until morning but was confronted by the defendant as he attempted to leave.

Hunter reportedly pointed a firearm at the complainant, whom the suit says was unarmed and adhering to the former’s instructions. A purported warning shot prompted Richmond to run towards his truck to escape the respondent.

“The defendant then initiated a physical altercation with the plaintiff and, in the process, the defendant’s gun discharged, striking the plaintiff in the chest, the suit says.

Consequently, Richmond seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by David A. Bryant, Jr. of The Bryant Law Firm in Conroe.
