HOUSTON – The Houston Forensic Science Center, Inc. has formally denied the allegations raised in a defamation lawsuit against it brought by a former employee last month, recent Harris County District Court records show.

As previously reported in The Southeast Texas Record, Dr. Tammy Barette sued the HFSC in the 234th District Court, alleging the defendant’s officials made defamatory statements about following her termination in October.

The HFSC filed an original answer into Barette’s suit on Dec. 20. According to the 4-page response, the respondent’s “allegedly defamatory statements were all substantially true.”

Asserting itself as a local government corporation, the HFSC invokes the doctrines of governmental immunity and qualified privilege.

The law firm Littler Mendelson, P.C. in Houston is representing the defendant.
